Reactive Dogs

When Life with Your Dog Isn’t What You Expected

If your dog barks, lunges or reacts to other dogs, people or movement, you’re not alone.

Reactive behaviour can make walks stressful, unpredictable and something you start to avoid altogether.

You might feel like you’re constantly on edge, scanning the environment, trying to manage situations before they escalate.

What Is Reactivity?

Reactivity isn’t your dog being “naughty” or difficult.

It’s usually a sign your dog is overwhelmed, over-aroused or unsure how to cope with what’s happening around them.

Barking, lunging and pulling are often attempts to:

  • create space
  • cope with pressure
  • or deal with something they find difficult

Why It Keeps Happening

Many owners are told to:

  • correct the behaviour
  • distract the dog
  • or try to “train it out” in the moment

But when a dog is already over threshold, they’re not in a place where learning can happen.

This is why things often feel like they’re getting worse, not better.

How I Help

I work 1:1 with you and your dog in Weymouth, either at home or out on walks.

We don’t just manage the behaviour — we change what’s driving it.

This includes:

  • lowering overall arousal levels
  • building calm, predictable patterns
  • teaching your dog how to stay connected to you
  • creating distance and safety where needed

Everything is done in real-life environments, so the training actually holds up where you need it.

No force. No gadgets. No quick fixes.

What You Can Expect

With the right approach, most dogs can learn to:

  • feel calmer around triggers
  • stay more connected to their owner
  • cope better with everyday situations

This doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen with the right foundations in place.
